Knowing the benefits of being organised can help you find a reason that works to motivate you to get started on your organising journey. Which of these will you pick?

10 Amazing Benefits Of Being Organised (Reasons You'll Love!)

Why get organised?

Surely you don’t REALLY need to, after all, you’ve got by until now, so why rock the boat?

But…. just look around you before you dismiss the idea out of hand.

You may not even be aware of what effect being less organised is having on you, your family and your home.

1 – Do you tend to be a very reactive person?

2 – Do you forget – or are late for – appointments regularly?

3 – Do you spend time looking for things around your house, or shouting at others in the house because they haven’t done something?

Well, these can all be as a direct result of being disorganised, and it’s not fun.

Not at ALL…

In fact, there are SO many reasons to get organised that I thought I’d gather them together so you can see for yourself.

Because one of the key things about getting organised – successfully – is to know your WHY – as this will help you stay motivated throughout.

If you can visualise your life as it will be once organised, you’ll be more determined to get there!

I hope these reasons will get you motivated, and give you that kick start you may need.

#1 – To Have Better Mental Health

I’ve added this one first, as it can have such a dramatic change to so many parts of your life when you get yourself organised a bit more.

  • You can avoid so many arguments and the building up of resentment with members of your family when you’re organised, as people understand what goes where, whose responsibility jobs are, and where people need to be and when.
  • When your surroundings are free from clutter it will lower your cortisol levels (the stress hormone), which will help alleviate negative feelings that stress brings.
  • You will have higher levels of satisfaction in life in general because everything will feel much more calm and under control.

It can be horrible to live with stress (I know this first hand), and if you can get yourself more organised, however small the changes seem to be, they can really make an impact for you.

Just think what it would feel like to walk into your home and know that everything is under control, you have scheduled time for all the jobs around the house, and everything is in its place so can be found when needed – BLISS!

#2 – To Be Richer

Yes, really.

Here are a few ways to maximise your income and reduce your outgoings through being organised, and who doesn’t want to save money to spend on the more important things in life!

  • Don’t waste money off vouchers – having a system in place will ensure you use them by their expiry date
  • Use store cards or money back credit cards IN THE RIGHT WAY to maximise cashback – it really is money for nothing and if managed well can soon add up
  • Understanding your finances and budgeting / saving well will ensure that you have money for rainy days, and for the more important things in life. Getting the to end of the month with money left will be a lot easier when you manage your finances and get them organised
  • Saving money – when was the last time you checked that you aren’t spending on things you don’t need? old direct debits for insurance for items you don’t own anymore, subscriptions to magazines you don’t want to read anymore – just seeing things on your statement can ensure that you reduce your waste.
  • How many times have you had to go out and buy something as you can’t find it in your house, only to find it a few weeks later? – What a waste of money AND time….which leads me nicely onto:-

#3 – To Have More Time

Picture this: You have had to go out and buy and item that you can’t find, or a present for someone whose birthday is tomorrow and you had forgotten etc… Even if its only 5 minutes to the shops, you will still end up spending around an hour on the trip – and what if you are then sidetracked by other shops? It doesn’t take long for the day to go and for you to feel like you haven’t achieved anything.

You need to ask yourself how much is your time really worth?

Can you afford to waste your time on lost items, and what would you do with extra time if you had it?

Being organised helps you have better time management, as you spend less time searching for things, less time doing chores and errands, and manage your diary well.

#4 – To Reach Your Goals

What would you do with an extra hour in your day?

Wouldn’t it be great to have time to work towards your goals and dreams, rather than look back on what you didn’t achieve?

Making a list of the things you want to do in your life can really make you see what’s important, and what’s not.

You may be wasting time and energy on the wrong things, but being disorganised may be hiding this from you, just leaving you with the feeling that you aren’t achieving things.

It can be very demoralising to finish each day feeling like you are getting nowhere.

Simple organising tricks can help you to achieve more with the same amount of time, and focus on what’s important to you.

#5 – To Have More Energy

How much energy do you waste searching for things and running back and forth to the shops, and how much mental energy do you waste on thinking about what needs to be done next or who needs what for the following day?

Physical and mental energy can both be very draining – and leave you exhausted at the end of the day – and if you have wasted this energy on things that weren’t necessary, this is even more draining.

Being organised means that you can focus your energy on the things that matter.

Never underestimate how much energy is needed to be disorganised – far more I would say than it takes to be organised.

#6 – To Stop Wasting Things

Waste can be something you’ve lost, something that hasn’t been eaten before it goes bad, petrol for errands that could have been avoided, money that has been spent for no real reason etc….

Getting organised can help create good habits to stop waste, such as menu planning, shopping lists, budgeting and being prepared (such as having a stock of presents bought in sale time that can be used as gifts throughout the year for people – they end up getting a gorgeous present and you haven’t had to spend a fortune).

#7 – To Get The Most From Your Life

Making the most of everyday is key to a happy life. You don’t want to look back and regret wasting time on the wrong things.

You want to have memories of great times spent with those you love, holidays, learning new skills etc…. rather than of a disorganised life where you never really got round to doing anything fun or that you truly loved.

Who doesn’t want to make the most of their life?

It can be so much more fun when you aren’t constantly playing catch up and drowning in a sea of paperwork  / washing / errands etc….

#8 – To Teach Your Children A Major Life Skill

I have an absolute passion for organising, and really believe that all children should be taught the skills required to lead an organised life and to be prepared properly for when they leave home.

Everyone has to live somewhere, and learning how to manage a house and all that goes with this can be some peoples undoing.

Simple budgeting, schedules, routines, habits can be learned from a really young age and can become part of a childs makeup long before they will need to use it in real life.

If schools don’t teach this, then it is up to parents to provide that role model – what better gift could you give a child than the ability to function well in adulthood?

Children are always watching their parents – and they will learn from how you live.

If you’re organised then they will naturally learn how to be organised themselves.

#9 – To Always Be On Top Of Things

Peace of mind is a great motivator.

To always know that household tasks (cleaning, paperwork etc..) are being taken care of, and to be able to relax at the end of a long day and not have to keep getting up to do something that pops into you head, would be great!

Organising means that the chatter in your mind that something needs doing, will be minimised.

You won’t have to keep things in your head as you will know where to write them down and where to find them when needed.

Your TO DO list and your diary will be key to achieving calm in your life – however hectic it actually is!!

#10 – To Increase Productivity

Getting organised can help you become the person you really want to be – on time for appointments, no wasted journeys, never forgetting birthdays, house always good enough to have people over at a moments notice, clothes ready to wear etc…

The key to being productive is great time and diary management. With these two skills mastered the rest will fall into place.

10 Amazing Benefits Of Being Organised (Reasons You'll Love!)

So, are you ready to get started?

You have to be willing to change and to invest time into getting organised, and having a reason to get organised really does help.

I suggest visualising what you ideal life would be like, and aiming for this – no doubt that some of these reasons above will be in that vision.

If it helps to motivate you, write down this vision and put it somewhere that you can see it every day, so it always stays in your conscious.

You will get there, if you get started!

As always I say that I don’t believe that anyone can be 100% organised in life, there is always room for more – what I want you to strive for is what’s right for you and your family/home.

Setting realistic targets and achieving them will be key to your success, not aiming for something impossible that you may never achieve.

Find the benefit that will motivate you the most today, and take the plunge.

Your future self is already thanking you…
