Adding some seasonal decor to your home at any time of the year doesn’t have to be expensive, or hard.

A whole new look can often be achieved by swapping out a few key items and adding in some that are totally reminiscent of the current season.

Christmas is no different!

It’s just that it’s more common to do this at this time of year than any other.

But it can feel like you’re always doing the same decor additions each year, and that can get slightly dull. Especially if you’re used to sticking to one or two rooms only.

So, if you want some ideas that are a little different to the usual Christmas decor, then you’re in the right place.

Here are some simple yet effective ways to add a touch of holiday spirit to every room in your home – hope you get some great inspiration for you home!

3 Ways To Add A Touch Of Christmas To Your Living Room

The living room is often the focal point during Christmas, as it’s where family and friends gather to celebrate.

To make this space feel extra Christmassy, consider the following ideas:

#1 – Add a cosy throw / blanket

A cosy throw or blanket can instantly elevate the Christmas atmosphere in your living room.

Choose one in a rich, festive colour that goes nicely with your existing decor like red, green, gold or even with a tartan pattern. A heavy fabric will also add warmth and a sense of cosiness (wool, fur etc…).

Throwing it casually over your couch or armchair not only adds a pop of Christmas colour, but also invites everyone in the room to snuggle up, making the living area feel warm, inviting, and distinctly Christmassy.

It’s a simple addition, but one that can dramatically transform the room into a cosy holiday retreat.

#2 – Create a DIY Christmas gallery wall

Gallery walls have become increasingly popular in home decor, and they offer a great opportunity to add some festive touches to your living room.

You can create a theme by using Christmas themed prints or quotes, display family holiday photos from past years, or even incorporate some handmade decorations.

This is not only a budget-friendly option but also a fun way to add your personal touch and memories to the room’s holiday decor. Plus, it can be easily changed up each year for a fresh look.

TIP: If you have an existing picture wall then you could simply swap some of the pictures out for seasonal ones – easy!

#3 – Extra lanterns and scented candles

Lanterns and candles are excellent for creating a warm, cosy ambience in any room but I always use them in my living room as this is most commonly used later in the day and so a warm glow is always nice.

Not only do they add soft lighting and a feel of warmth to the space, but you can also bring in festive scents like cinnamon, pine, or sugar cookies that can instantly make you feel like it’s Christmas.

This is a great way to create a magical atmosphere and make your living room feel like a winter wonderland.

3 Ways To Make Your Bathroom Christmassy

The bathroom may not be the first room that comes to mind when thinking about Christmas decor, but it’s a space that can benefit from some festive touches and will bring a smile to your face every morning and evening!

Bathroom items decorated for Christmas

#1 – Soap

Swapping out your regular hand and body soap for ones with holiday scents can instantly make your bathroom feel more festive.

Think peppermint, cranberry, or gingerbread – these scents will not only make you feel pampered but also add a touch of holiday spirit to the room.

#2 – Hand Towels

Similar to soap, changing out your regular hand towels for ones with Christmas designs or colours can bring a touch of holiday cheer to your bathroom or downstairs toilet.

Hand towels are a cheaper way of updating the soft furnishings in the space as well!

#3 – Bath Mat

A Christmas-themed bath mat is a simple yet effective way to add some holiday spirit to your bathroom.

Choose one with a festive pattern or colour scheme, and it will instantly make your bathroom feel more Christmassy.

3 Ways To Add A Touch Of Christmas To Your Bedroom

Your bedroom is your own personal retreat, and during the holiday season, it should feel just as festive as the rest of your house. Here are some ideas to add a touch of Christmas to your bedroom:

#1 – Decorate your headboard

Decorating your headboard can transform your bedroom into a holiday haven.

Consider adding a simple string of white fairy lights for a twinkling, magical ambiance that can remain even as your go-to sleep light.

Another great ideas is to drape a garland of pine or eucalyptus across the top, incorporating ornaments for pops of colour.

Lastly, why not add a set of 3 small, festive wreaths lined up across the width of the headboard?

These easy, budget-friendly additions can result in a cosy, Christmas atmosphere that makes your bedroom feel extra special during the holiday season.

#2 – Diffuser

A safer alternative to candles, and easier to use in a bedroom – a diffuser can add a lovely scent to the space that really envokes Christmas.

You could use a reed diffuser for all day scents, or opt for an electric one that you can switch on and off as you like.

#3 – Cushions

Stick to white bedding but change up the cushions (and throw if you have one) to give a seasonal touch.

I love using cushions that are in the same colour way as my bedroom, but with a Christmas / winter slant – such as fur, Christmas words on, and sparkly sequins.

Christmas is the time to add texture and patterns and go a little wild!

3 Ways To Make Your Kids Bedrooms Feel Like It’s Christmas

Christmas time is especially magical for children, and their bedrooms are their own so it makes sense for them to be able to add a few Christmas additions to them.

Here are my favourites:

#1 – Fairy lights

Fairy lights are a must-have in kids’ bedrooms at all times of the year, but especially during Christmas.

They create a warm, cosy atmosphere that’s perfect for bedtime stories or snuggling up in bed to watch a movie.

Hang them around the bed frame, along the curtain pole or drape them across the ceiling for a magical touch.

TIP: Make sure they’re safe for use in kids rooms, and if you can get ones that dim then you can use them as a night light over the holidays for an extra function!

#2 – Christmas bedding

Why not add some holiday cheer to their bedroom with themed bedding.

You can find a variety of options that will suit whatever age and likes that they have – from classic Christmas colours to fun cartoon characters or festive animals.

Not only will this make bedtime more exciting, but it’s also an effortless way to give the room a Christmas vibe.

#3 – Window Decor

Add some fake snow stickers or spray – or let them decorate their windows!

This is an easy win because it’s creative and not permanent so you can easily tidy up when Christmas is over…

3 Ways To Make Your Kitchen Feel More Like Christmas

Now your Kitchen will have lots of lovely Christmas smells naturally pouring out of it over the holidays, but you can add to the festive feel as well with a few key items:

#1 – Holiday Crockery

Serving dishes are a great way to add some Christmas vibes to your meals, without having to change all your plates etc…

I have a few large bowls / platters and wood boards that are specifically Christmassy:

  • Wooden board in shape of a Christmas Tree
  • Large white bowl with pine needle pattern on it
  • Black plates with snowflakes indented in them

These are all used throughout December, and then packed away for the rest of the year – making them extra special!

#2 – Christmas Tea Towels

Just like you can swap hand towels in your bathroom, so too can you swap out your regular tea towels for some with festive patterns or colours.

This is an easy and inexpensive way to add a touch of Christmas to your kitchen and get into the holiday spirit while doing daily tasks like

#3 – Festive Table Decor

Whether you’re hosting over the holidays, or you just want to glam up your table instead of having it bare, adding some decor to it will be a bonus!

Consider using a holiday-themed tablecloth or runner, along with a centrepiece made of pine cones, berries, and candles.

Personally I like to add a large candle or a plant such as a Poinsetta as these are simple but add colour and texture to the table.

3 Ways To Make Your Hallway & Entrance More Festive

The first place that guests see when they visit over the holidays, but also the welcome that you get each evening when you come home.

It’s definitely worth making a little effort to this area.

#1 – Themed Lighting

Add some festive lighting to the hallway, such as some battery-operated candles or a lit wreath – is a great option.

Ideally get something that you can set on a timer so they’re giving off a warm (and safe!) glow for when you get home, and all through the evening.

TIP: You could also swap out your regular light bulbs for ones that give off a warmer, cosier glow.

#2 – Festive Garland

If your entryway / hallway has a staircase in it – why not weave a garland up the bannister?

You can add a string of lights, use greenery, artificial or real – just let your creativity flow!

#3 – Welcome Mat

I love adding a Christmas themed welcome mat to my front door – as it sets the tone for the rest of the house.

You could add something a little cheeky here, or just a simple “Merry Christmas’ message – the choice is endless!

3 Christmas Decor Ideas For The Whole House!

We’ve now gone through the whole house room by room – but there are some extra things that I wanted to mention that aren’t specifically for any one space.

Use these throughout the house and you’ll be in the Christmas mood before you know it…

#1 – Christmas Plants

I love small Christmas trees in pots, Poinsettas (white are my favourite rather than traditional red), and Eucalyptus – dotted throughout the house.

Not only do they add a Christmas vibe, but they add colour and texture to every room they’re in.

#2 – Festive Scents

You want to appeal to all the senses when it comes to adding a touch of the season to your home.

The best (especially in terms of memories and traditions) is your sense of smell – and so any time you can add a Christmas scent to a space – do it!

We’re talked above about candles, diffusers, soaps etc.. – but you can add scents through special edition cleaning products, toiletries and more – so pick a favourite (or a few!) and spread the aromas throughout the house.

TIP: I have an artificial Christmas tree now, but I have a fir essential oil that I have in a diffuser next to it that creates that gorgeous smell of a real tree. Worth a try!

#3 – Incorporate natural elements

Bringing in some natural elements like pine cones, evergreen branches, eucalyptus etc.. are simple but effective ways to add a touch of Christmas to any room.

You can use them in wreaths, centrepieces, or even just scatter them around the house for a festive touch. Plus, they add a lovely natural and rustic feel to your holiday decor.

21 Clever Ways To Make Every Room Christmassy

And there you have it – lots of great decor options to make your home feel more Christmassy this holiday season.

A lot of these things can be mixed and matched between rooms – so don’t feel like you have to stick to the suggested rooms above.

You do you!

I hope you have a fantastic time over the holidays, and that the decor you choose adds a lovely Christmas feel to the whole house.
