Easy checklist (totally FREE as well!) of what to declutter from your home and life in August. Let’s get things sorted, one step at a time, and enjoy having a clutter free home by the end of the year.

What To Declutter In August - Free Checklist of 31 Easy Things

This is the next part of my 12 part series of free decluttering printables this year – all based around the popular post – 365 things to declutter from your home and life this year.

You can choose how you do things with each monthly declutter checklist (which you can grab NOW in the Printables Library). Either do it all on one day in a blitz session, or take it slowly and declutter one item a day on the date the checklist suggests.

It really depends on what time you have available, and how you like to do things (as always!).

Without further ado, let’s get on with what to declutter in August – I really hope you enjoy!

What to declutter in August – 31 things!

#1 – Old jewellery boxes that your jewellery came in when you got it. Unless it’s got sentimental reasoning, or you are keeping the original box because you plan to sell the item one day, then let it go.

#2 – Anything on your TO DO list that doesn’t NEED to be done, and that no-one will be affected by if it doesn’t get done

#3 – Clothes you can’t wear because you have nothing that goes with it. Always try and buy clothes that you know will go with things you already have – keep to a few key colours and you’ll be able to mix and match and therefore have less clothes overall while still being able to wear different looks often.

#4 – Pens that you can’t write nicely with – you don’t need the frustration in your life!

{ My current favourite pen to write with is THIS ONE }

#5 – Toiletries that don’t work well for you – that you’re just putting up with. For example, a cream that doesn’t feel nice, shampoo that doesn’t make your hair feel clean etc…

#6 – Broken or damaged ornaments

#7 – Belts that you don’t wear

#8 – Recipe books you don’t use (you can easily find recipes online)

Recipe books open on windowsill

#9 – Kids schoolwork – keep only one or two of the best bits from each year

#10 – Downloaded music on your computer / phone that you don’t listen to

#11 – Finished sticker books

#12 – Excess cutlery

#13 – Sportswear that smells – sweat can stay forever, no matter what you do. And it only gets more smelly when you next wear it and it heats up with your body heat after some exercise…

#14 – Excess towels – how many do you really need?

#15 – Anything in a box in your shed that you don’t use, or remember what’s in it!

#16 – Makeup you never wear because you hate the colour

Makeup

#17 – Old phones that you no longer use

#18 – Blankets that you don’t use

#19 – Telephone directories

#20 – Overstretched hair bands/elastics

#21 – Knives that are no longer sharp and can’t be sharpened

#22 – Photos of places and people you don’t know / remember

#23 – How much food you have stored – eat from what you’ve got for a week and declutter it that way

#24 – Old paperwork that is piling up

#25 – Ice in the freezer – defrost it!

#26 – Anything in the back seat area of the car that isn’t vital

#27 – Sun cream that’s past its best (see the package for months it can be opened for – usually they will show you – for example, 18M is 18 months after opening)

#28 – Your wedding dress

#29 – Programmes from sports events / theatre that you have been to but never look at

#30 – DVDs you have watched and won’t watch again

#31 – Items related to hobbies you don’t do any longer
