The main advantage of decluttering is that it makes your environment less busy so you can find and use those things that matter to you, without having to work around the rest.
But have you ever thought about the other advantages of decluttering? What do you actually get from clearing the clutter from your home, and why should you bother?
Here are 7 ways that a good declutter can really help you in your daily life – so lets get started!
Advantage #1 – More space
You gain more space within rooms, and this space can help you become more organised by using it for storage, or simply for having some space for your home to breath.
You also gain more space in your head – physical clutter can be really mentally draining – and taking that away can make all the difference.
Advantage #2 – More time
Our “stuff” costs us time.
Time spent researching, purchasing, setting up, using, maintaining, cleaning etc…..
Phew – I’m tired just thinking about it all!
If you have less stuff, it stands to reason that you will have to spend less time doing these things, and have more time for fun stuff instead.
Advantage #3 – More money
Following on from number 2 in this list – stuff costs money – not only to buy, but also to maintain and store.
For example – you buy a dress you love as its in the sale – however it has to be dry cleaned only – how much will that cost you over the time you own it?
Start thinking about what an item will cost you – not just to buy, but also to keep in your home – that may be reason enough not to buy it!
Advantage #4 – Less cleaning
I hate polishing. Its one of those jobs that just never ends.
One way I find great to minimise the time I spend on polishing is to have less on every surface – as each individual item has to be picked up and polished, then put back.
Its the same with cleaning around furniture, under rugs, around piles of stuff – if you have to move things to clean them all, then it takes more cleaning – and who wants that?
You can also see your stuff more clearly when theres less of it – so you can actually enjoy it more, which leads me onto number 5….
Advantage #5 – A new space
Just de-cluttering a room can transform it – and possibly saves the need for complete redecoration as it gives the whole space a new lease of life.
Your decoration and accessories can get lost amongst the clutter collected in everyday life very easily.
Decluttering may not give you the show home minimal look you think of when you hear the term declutter – but it will show off what you keep that bit better.
Advantage #6 – No need to move house
One of the top reasons people move house is because they have outgrown their existing home.
They run out of space.
When you declutter and only have in your home what you truly want and need, you may find that there is more space than you realised.
This could be the biggest bonus of all, as you have saved the stress, time and money of moving – all by decluttering!
Advantage #7 – More relaxing
A decluttered home is more relaxing to be in.
There are many reasons why we have clutter in our houses – life is busy and it is inevitable that some amount of clutter will build up. But it should be noted that it can make people depressed and unable to relax in their own home.
They may feel overwhelmed at the task of sorting everything out, and many just start to ignore it. However, if it’s kept under control it is easier to create a beautiful and relaxing home.
