{Daily Task #6} Fridge Clean and Tidy

Task #6:

Today it’s time to clean and tidy the fridge.

Take everything out so you can see whats going on, clean everywhere, then add back all your food stuffs – voila!

My Tips and Advice:

Fridge LayoutDepending on time available, I either use antibacterial wipes to give everything a thorough clean, and then take off any excess damp with a tea towel to finish – OR I have hot soapy water with a little bicarb in it (the bicarb will help to neutralise odours).

I take out each shelf and clean, and also the trays in the side of the fridge and the tubs at the bottom – give everything a good clean.

A good tip to remember is to wipe around the plastic door seal – all around the fridge door – as this hides many crumbs and bits of food.

Also take this opportunity to sort through whats been in the fridge – so you don’t have anything lurking there (!). Throw away anything past its best, and past its use by date – and only put back whats good and what will be eaten.

Lastly – think about where to put your food in the fridge as well. As a rule, always have cooked foods above raw foods (in case of drips etc…).

I use the shelves as you can see in the picture here – pretty self explanatory really!

What I would like to point out as its something that works really well – is that we have used plastic containers on some of the shelves to contain similar foods together that would otherwise get cluttered quickly – so my daughters yoghurts and smoothies are in a tub on the top shelf, and all our cheeses are in a tub further down.

This is great as we can simply pull it out and find exactly what we want – so nothings lost at the back.

One of the reasons I miss my cleaner (she only came once every 5-6 weeks, but still) is that she cleaned out the fridge every time. I’m going to get on this first thing this morning.

Hi Rachel – love that you had a cleaner but only every 5-6 weeks, as this shows that you can get one as and when you need it instead of having them every week – and getting them to do the tasks that you simply don’t like or don’t have time to do is key. Hope that your fridge clean went well…. x

The rubber door seal or gasket also needs to be cleaned thoroughly to stop it becoming a breeding ground for bacteria. You may find it easier to do this with an old toothbrush.
