{Daily Task #92} – Clean the oven

Task #92:

Not the nicest of jobs by any means, but todays task is to clean your oven.

daily task 92 clean the oven

My Tips and Advice:

Cleaning the oven is one of the jobs I hate the most around the house, and as such I want to make it as easy as I can. Here are a few tips to help matters:-

Be safe

When I use a specific oven cleaner I always check the side of the container to check it’s suitable for my specific oven (some have warnings that you can’t use them if you have used a different cleaner before as they may react with each other – chemicals aren’t nice).

Always wear old clothes and protective gloves, and do this when the kids are out of the house.

To be a lot safer you could always look at green options such as baking soda – but I personally haven’t tried this so can’t really comment – take a look at this fantastic post on cleaning ovens from lovehome.co.uk for some extra tips in this area if you want to give it a go.

Delegate

If you don’t want to use chemicals yourself, then consider getting the professionals in.

I started to get my oven cleaned professionally last year and I was so impressed with the fact that it looked as good as new when they had finished that now it will be something that’s done every year after Christmas.

I did have to laugh at the story the man told as he was cleaning the oven – apparently lots of ladies get their ovens cleaned right before Christmas as they want to impress their mother in laws! Personally I would rather let Christmas take its toll on the oven and then get the cleaners in! …..

This also really helps make it easier to maintain over the year myself.

Think ahead

Once you have cleaned the oven, make it easy to keep clean by doing some of the following things:-

1. Add a liner to the oven floor that will catch all the food dribbles etc…. – Lakeland sell a good option.

2. Give the oven a wipe over after each use – especially the glass door if you have one as this shows the dirt the most. This habit will stop buildup.

How did you get on?

Well I didn’t clean the oven, but I’ve applied for 4 quotes to have someone else do it for me.

Hi Linda – it’s all about getting things done in the way that you can get them done – so getting someone else in is perfect!
