{Daily Task #79} – Sort the toys!

Task #79:

Tackle the toy box and sort all the toys – get rid of broken ones and give away others that aren’t played with any longer.

Daily task 79 sort the toys

My Tips and Advice:

Kids toys can get out of hand very quickly if they aren’t sorted regularly.

There’s Christmas presents, Birthday presents and everything in between to contend with – and the younger the child, the more bulky the toys seem to be.

The answer is to have a good sort out – I suggest at least twice a year (before Christmas and at the start of the summer holidays are good times).

The key rule here though is to get your child(ren) involved in the process. The last thing you would want is someone sorting your stuff without consulting you first, and you really don’t know what they want to keep without asking them.

Its also a great way to get children starting to think about decluttering regularly – a great skill for later life.

How do you get children involved in sorting toys without them keeping them all?

You may want to tell them they are giving some toys to charity before Christmas so that other less fortunate children will have presents to open on the big day, or maybe getting them to make space for new toys helps (the 1 in 1 out policy), children are usually more excited by their new toys so will be more willing to give older ones away at this point.

Whatever way you find to do it, its worth it so that you can keep the toys contained into the area you have allocated for them (as much as possible anyway!).

How did you get on?
