Task #38:

Add a bag to the car with items for emergencies in it – don’t get caught out again.

My Tips and Advice:

I have broken down once in my life – and it happened to be when I was heavily pregnant and it was freezing cold. Standing by the side of the road with my sister in law, we could really have done with a warm blanket!

On another occasion – when my daughter was a toddler, I took her to an indoor play centre. We were having a great time until, out of the blue, she came over to me, waited to be picked up and cuddled, and was then violently sick all over us both…. She was totally fine before and after – but we were stuck there, with no changes of clothes, and no easy way to get home without going naked or wearing the dirty clothes and wrecking the car too. Suffice to say that naked wasn’t an option – however I did end up driving home in a spare jumper a member of staff found me and my knickers….. – How I prayed we wouldn’t break down on the way back home!

I also recall getting stuck in traffic more times than I like to count – without any food or drink for us as it was meant to be a quick journey home so we weren’t thinking we’d need any.

I’m sure you have many similar stories in your family as well (any funny stories I wold love to hear – please leave a comment below….)

Emergencies like this, large and small, happen, and that’s a fact. What we do about them is up to us – and having a bag of helpful items ready in the boot of the car can really help!

Fill it with things like:-

  • Change of clothes
  • Bottles of water
  • Packs of biscuits (something that will last a while before going out of date)
  • Blanket (in case of breakdown)
  • Plastic Mac (in case of breakdown)
  • Umbrella

In fact – anything that you may need on a drive somewhere but wouldn’t have with you otherwise.

Hopefully you will already have things you would need in case of a breakdown  – like your breakdown cover details, warning triangle etc…..(and if you don’t this may be something as an added extra to do today!) – What I am talking about here are purely the things that would be helpful to have if you were ever caught out in any way while out and about.

It just makes life go a little more smoothly!

How did you get on?

I’d love to know!  –  Why not write a comment below….

    Hi, Chrissy,

I already have some stuff in the back of my car for emergency’s. Stuff that can help me get my car fixed when it brakes down (such as batterystarters) but also a blanket, water and emergency light. A good tip to throw in some spare close as well, I will be doiing that s.a.p. Thanks for your tips and advice.
