{Daily Task #18} Subscriptions Declutter

Task #18:

Do you absolutely need all the magazines/newspapers you subscribe to?

If you are finding it hard to make time to read them, and haven’t read them for a few editions, then it may be worth cancelling them now.

My Tips and Advice:

Magazine subscriptions can save money, a lot of money, on their face value – which is why they are definitely worth it if you read them and keep up.

However, if you are starting to become overwhelmed by what you still have to read, or aren’t even getting round to reading them – then its a waste of both money and space in your home.

Magazines can form huge piles in your house – as you can become worried about not having read all parts of each one, or not getting round to reading them at all…

If you really want to read something one day, then it would be more cost effective to go out and buy an individual copy of a magazine as and when you want one – or even better would be buying them online. You can get quite a few online now as well or via kindles etc… if that’s your preference (which saves clutter!)

Extra Task:

Why not extend this task and unsubscribe from anything you don’t really need?

This can include any direct mailing lists you are on, or email newsletters you subscribe from that you don’t read – as these are adding to your clutter as well (this blogs newsletter is a keeper though – of course! ;o) )

How did you get on?

I’d love to know!  –  Why not write a comment below….

I was pretty bad at subscribing online to anythings and everything – websites and newsletters in particular to the point where I would get over 50 emails a day just for these and I was snowed.

In the end I set up a new email address just for friends and family.

I kept my original email for shopping etc and went to the Unroll Me website ( It accessed my email with my permission and listed all my subscriptions. I clicked on the ones I didn’t want anymore and the website unsubscribed me immediately. Now I get maybe 5-10 emails a day with content I actually want and I save heaps of time not having to delete junk. I

don’t work for Unroll Me – it’s a free service but it’s definitely helped me declutter virtually!

Great idea Lizzie – thanks for sharing – it seems an easier option than unsubscribing to each individual email, but I would be wary of giving my email logon details to someone else which may be the only thing which would stop me using something like this.
