Because of this blog, I often get asked whether there are any people that can help with getting your life and home more organised, so I wanted to talk about that today. After all – a lot of people don’t even realise that there IS help out there for getting sorted like this, and how much of a difference it could make.
We are all aware that there is help out there for lots of parts of our housework and life: –
- People who do your ironing
- Life coaches
- Window cleaners
- Oven cleaners
the list is potentially endless….
However, if you think about all the above professions, we happily hire them WHEN we have decided we can afford their help, when we know what we need them to do, and how often we need them – but that involves a certain amount of scheduling and planning up front.
Some of us are lucky and enjoy making our homes run smoothly – so getting extra help from these people works really well as they are taking some of the TO DO’s off our plate and we know exactly how to make the most of what they do.
BUT what if we need help with actually getting to the point where we CAN hire someone?
For example: –
If your home is cluttered then a cleaner will take longer to clean as a result. We aren’t being clever with how we spend our money or their time – and as such we should look the clutter and tackle that first. Who can help with that?
We are constantly stressed out and feel like we’re chasing our tails when it comes to sorting out the family and where they need to be, what they need to have, not double booking things etc…. We’re wasting time and energy with this dis-organisation – but who can help us if we can’t see the way forward?
Let’s face it – when it comes to sorting out your home, setting up systems that work, and making life easier – there’s no-one…. is there?
Well – the good news is YES – there IS help out there – and it comes in the form of professional organisers.
It’s a growing profession that’s pretty new in the UK (15 years or so…) – but one that’s very much needed – and I couldn’t be happier to talk about this option for you if you need it in your own home and life.
WHY WOULD YOU HIRE A PROFESSIONAL ORGANISER?
When I mentioned the words “professional organiser”, did you automatically think of a hoarder who is struggling completely with their home and life?
Did you think to yourself that surely you have to be more like this to get help from an organiser?
Well – no – not at all.
I like to think of it like I would my business.
As a business owner I am MORE than happy to get help with the things I need to learn, to set up systems that make me more productive, and to make sure I use my time, money and energy well.
So, why not treat your home as a business of sorts?
After all – YOU are the boss of your home – so it makes sense to set things up so you spend less time managing it, and more time on the things you REALLY want to do….
WHAT CAN A PROFESSIONAL ORGANISER HELP WITH?
There are loads of times that professional help to get your home and life more sorted is a good idea: –
- You have got overwhelmed with your home and need help to know what to do and where to start
- Life events (illness, new job, new baby etc…) have meant things have slipped and you need a re-set
- You want to set up systems in your home that work for you – but don’t know where to start
- You want to have a declutter but need support to get through it
- You have a specific room / area in your home or life that needs looking at
- You want someone to sort out your never ending pile of paperwork / photos / books etc…
The list really is endless – and a pro can do it all in a fraction of the time it may take you to learn how to do it yourself.
They’ve learnt over the years the best ways to do things. They have experience, and you can avoid mistakes by going to them for help.
I love the fact that you can get help on a one off basis, a set of sessions over a short period of time, OR have a regular appointment with them.
You do what works for you.
Side note – I was a professional organiser myself for over 10 years, so I know how much they can help!. I started this blog as another way to help people, and found I loved this so much it became my full time gig – but I LOVED helping people 1-1 when I did it – as the transformations were amazing!
WHERE CAN I GO TO FIND A PROFESSIONAL ORGANISER?
If I’ve sold you on the idea of considering help for your own home and life, then you’ll definitely be wanting to know where to find these amazing people!
It’s quite easy when you know what you’re looking for, as there’s a professional organising body in most countries (US has NAPO, for example) – and here in the UK we have a fantastic association called APDO.
Just do a quick google search for your countries association, take a look at who’s in your local area, and see what types of services they offer – as some professional organisers specialise and you may well find the perfect match for your needs.
You can get help with all of the following: –
- Getting ready for a new baby (sorting the nursery, helping you clean and sort the house in prep. etc…)
- Sorting out your home (decluttering and organising all spaces or just one area)
- Setting up a home based business (home office setup, systems to help etc….)
- Sorting paperwork (filing, dealing with school and work papers etc…)
- Time management help (scheduling, diary management etc…)
- Collating and organising your photos (digital and hard copies)
- P.A work for the home (dealing with bills, admin, errands etc…)
- Moving house (staging your current house ready for selling, getting ready to move house, unpacking after the move etc…)
- Wardrobe organisation (setting up a capsule wardrobe, sorting what you have etc…)
And all of these services could be one off sessions or a regular service (weekly or monthly, for example).
You can basically work with an organiser to get the exact help you need – and that is potentially life changing!
WHY WOULD YOU CONSIDER HELP IN THIS WAY?
Sometimes a second opinion is really useful, or a new way of looking at things, or even just the support of having someone focus you to get things done. There are SO many reasons you would find a professional helpful.
In fact – a LOT of professional organisers hire other organisers for their own needs – because they recognise that getting help for their own home and life can be a better way of dealing with everything that trying to do it themselves a lot of the time.
